Subang Parade Refurbishment Earns International Acclaim with Development and Design Silver Award Win from ICSC Asia Pacific
Macau, China - 15 October 2008
The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Asia Pacific Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony brought due recognition to Subang Parade, one of the premier shopping centres in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. Subang Parade held its own in the spotlight as a Silver Award Winner in the Development and Design category amongst prominent regional competitors from Australia, Japan and Singapore.
The 2005-06 interior overhaul marked a first for Malaysia and maybe even South East Asia as all renovations took place during non operational hours and the centre stayed open with miminal interruptions. The 20 year old suburban shopping centre was transformed into a bright, vibrant shopping hub literally overnight. The refurbishment had a positive impact on shoppers and spending increased by 43% from 2005 to 2006, with post renovation sales increasing another 22% in 2007. In the five months after the renovation, shopper traffic also increased 47% from 2006.
Mr Christopher Mears, Executive Vice President of the Hektar Group and Refurbishment Coordinator, noted, “We are proud to provide the residents of Subang Jaya with a shopping experience that exceeds international standards. We constantly strive to achieve the highest mark with all of our centres and are pleased that Subang Parade can set the norm for design and shopper experience even as a suburban centre.”
Hektar Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Jaafar Abdul Hamid adds, “We are confident in our ability to create places people love to shop in and can keep coming back to time and time again.”
No doubt that with the upcoming renovation of Mahkota Parade, the Hektar Group’s shopping centre in Melaka, Malaysia, there will be more standards setting and another award winning shopping centre to look forward to. |
